Thoughtful Thursdays

Over the years God has given me many ways to help bring order into our home. When my older kids were younger I struggled with completing laundry. I would get it all washed and never folded. Then once I got it folded it never seemed to get put away. It was a problem that seems easy enough to solve yet I still struggled to get it accomplished.

At that given time in my life I was the youngest member of our women's Bible study group and I shared this struggle with them. Many of the older members rolled their eyes and others just politely listened. This was not a hard task I just needed to do my laundry! One woman not only listened but when it came time for prayer she prayed that God would reveal a way for me to keep up with my laundry. At the end of class she turned to me and said, "I think that you should give each room a basket, one for the girls, one for the boys and one for yourselves. Dedicate one day of each week to each room and do the laundry for that room, sheets and all." I just looked at her in amazement!

Many other methods would have worked to do our laundry but God knew how to speak just to me. He knew that I needed order and rules to follow. He knew that I struggled with having things just right and he used this sweet woman to minister to me in a very practical way. I was able to give each room their own basket. I would do three loads of laundry on that given rooms laundry day and they would all go right back into the room that I started in. I did not have to divide up folded laundry, guess where to go with it all and struggle to put it all away. I would do the sheets first and before even lunch have the beds remade. It was a beautiful opportunity for me to gain some real control over a real struggle in my life!

Our laundry looks much different today than it did then but so does our family. God used that lesson for a season of my life and helped me to see that He cares about intimate parts of our life. If you are struggling with finding some order in your life, share it with those around you who can pray for you. Don't be afraid of what they might think. Once we are transparent about our shortcomings others are given an opportunity to see the real us. God may even use one of them to speak to you a solution to help you through a practical situation.

If you do not have a group to share your struggle with, feel free to email me and mention Thoughtful Thursdays in the subject line. I will pray for your struggle and bring those situations to my blog where others can pray for you and post comments on solutions that were revealed to them, just for you!
